CHILD EVANGELISM
WHY EVANGELIZE CHILDREN?
1. God’s message is for everyone.
• God commanded the disciples to preach the Gospel to every creature (Mark 16: 15)
• God’s love extends to every individual in the world (John 16: 13)
• The promise of salvation was not given with age limit s.
John 3: 16 – “…whosoever believeth… “
John 1: 12 – “… as many as received him…”
Romans 10: 13 – “… whosoever shall call…”
2. Children are lost.
• Children have a sinful nature.
Romans 3: 23; 5: 12; Psalm 51: 5
• Children need to be made aware of their condition before God
The Bible commands us to evangelize everybody (Mark 16: 15). This means that we are required to evangelize all children, in a thorough, biblical way – and leave the question of regeneration in the hands of God.
3. Scripture commands us.
Teachings of Christ in Matthew 18: 1- 14
• Age which children will be evangelized is often debated.
Christ begins this section speaking of the little child (v.2)
Little child – Greek word, paidion
Mark 9: 36 shows that child was very little – “He took him in his arms.”
• Adults are required to enter the kingdom as little children, depending humbly on God (vv.3- 4)
Adults must return to childhood attitudes, not actions.
Children live in a natural environment of dependence.
• The Lord Jesus placed great value on little child
Jesus settled forever the question as to whether the children can believe and be saved (v. 6) – little ones Greek word, micros.
Said”… little ones which believe in me …”
Christ affirmed this was saying faith; “believe in me” the same words used in John 3: 16; Acts 16: 31.
Warns us not to offend believing children.
• Christ taught the importance the importance of one child.
4. Children are Under Attack (hour)
• Children today are attacked on every side by the world’s influence.
5. Children can be Born Again
Some people are skeptical and finding it difficult to believe in the reality of child conversion. However, there is no verse in the whole Bible which says that a child cannot come into a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ.
• Children are more ready to receive the Savior.
Children have open and ready hearts.
Children are naturally humble, teachable, trusting
Tomorrow, young impressionable hearts may be hardened to the things of the Lord and His Word.
• Children are more likely to have many years to serve the Lord.
Many preachers and evangelists were saved as children.
Many notable Christians were saved as children.
“Remember, the Holy Spirit is the one who convicts the child of sin and causes him to be ready to accept Christ as Savior (John 16: 8 ).
• Children are dependent upon us to show then the way.
6. Children are the Future of Our Nation
• God warns that if children are not taught, future generation will cease to follow His Word (Judges 2: 10- 11; Psalm 78: 1- 8 ).
• If you win a child for Christ, you have saved an entire life. If you win an adult, you may have only saved a soul.
• Now is the hour to reach the children (2 Cor. 6: 2).

Why lead Children to Christ?

An Overview of the Message of Salvation

Man is

Sin separates us from God – You cannot go to heaven like you are (Isa. 59: 2)
† Unable to save Himself – You cannot be good enough for God (Titus 3: 5)
2. The Gospel
The person of the Lord Jesus
He is God, the Son (Acts 9: 20).
He is Perfect Man (2 Cor. 5: 21).
The work of the Lord Jesus
† He willingly died on the cross
† He came back to life again
† He lives in heaven with the Father.
3. The appropriation
God’s invitation is to come to Christ (Rev. 22: 17).
Man’s responsibility (John 1: 12).
Admit to God that he is a sinner and desires to turn from his sin.
Believe that the Lord Jesus died for him and is the only one who can take away his sin.
Call on the Lord Jesus, receiving Him as his very own Savior from sin.

USING THE SYMBOL FLASHCARD TO PRESENT THE MESSAGE OF SALVATION TO CHILDREN
1. Gold circle
• God made all things – he made you.
• God loves you very much (John 3: 16).
• God is perfect, he never does anything wrong.
• God has made a perfect place in heaven for you.
Link: “There is one thing that can never be in heaven. That is sin.”
2. Dark heart
• Sin is anything that displeases God – it can be wrong things that you think, feel or say. It can be not doing what you know you should.
• Give specific examples that a child can relate to.
• Everyone has sinned (Rom. 3: 23) – you were born to a “want to” to do things on your own way.
• Sin separates you from God and keeps you from going to heaven – God’s perfect place for you.
Link: “But God has a wonderful plan so that you can have your sins forgiven and go to heaven someday.”
3. Red cross and tomb
• Wicked men nailed the Lord Jesus to the cross – he willingly let them do this.
• He gave His blood so your sins could be forgiven (Heb. 9: 22)
• He took the punishment that you deserved.
• He could take your place because He is perfect (2 Cor. 5: 21).
• He died and was put into a tomb. After three days, he came back to life again (1 Cor. 15: 3, 4).
• He is now in heaven with His Father waiting for you to come and be with Him in heaven someday.

4. Clean heart
• Admit to God that you are a sinner and desires to turn from your sin.
• Believe that the Lord Jesus died for you and is the only one who can take away your sin.

After going through the “A, B, C” with the child ask him if he is willing to receive the Lord Jesus as his Savior. If he says “yes,” review the truths taught on each flashcard by asking some thought-provoking questions, letting the child tell what he understands. You may then ask the child, ‘Would you like to tell God you believe the Lord Jesus was punished for the sinful things you have done?” Then Let the child tell God.
After a child receives Christ, help him see by the Word of God that he is now saved.
• Return to the verse you shared during the “A, B, C” part of the presentation.
• Insert the child’s name in the verse.
• Ask: “What does the Bible say God just did for you?” or
“What does the Bible say God just gave you?”

Counseling Is Questioning
1. Ask though- provoking questions.
2. Find out why the child responded.
3. Counsel according to the child’s needs using the Word of God.
How to counsel a Child or Small Group of Children
1. Ask the child why he came to talk to you.
• Show Christ’s love – speak with a gentle, quite voice.
• Find a quiet place away from distractions, if possible.
• Call the child by name – try to gain his confidence.
• Trust the Holy Spirit to guide you in discerning the needs of the child.
• Counsel the child according to His need.
2. Ask thought- provoking questions that require more than “yes” or “no” answers.
Possible questions concerning his need of salvation
? Why do you need the Lord Jesus as your Savior?
? What is sin?
? Can you name something that is sin?
? What is God’s punishment for sin?
